UK multimedia journalist Adam Westbrook has a clear view of the journalist of the future. Westbrook lists numerous technologies, from Twitter to XHTML, and new ways of working that will soon become common tools of the trade.
For example, using “social media technologies to get reaction to stories, find contributors, experts and even money, and shar[ing] the final product under the ethos of creative commons so others can build on it”.
And, as Whitireia Journalism programme leader Jim Tucker and I often comment to students, it’s important to have a specialist subject, says Westbook. (He agrees that equally, you have to be a “Jack of all trades”).

He makes some very good, inspiring points. Multi-media journalism is quite likely the way of the future, and I like his point about being able to evolve with new technologies, not see them as a threat.
